  1. Tēnā koe Alyssa!

My name is Jordan and I work with Emma at the Summer Learning Journey programme. I'm the Cluster Manager for Kootuitui (Papakura). Well done for completing so many Summer Learning Journey activities, and for combining them all in to one Google Slide. How did you find these activities?
I'll comment on your first slide for the activity, 'Surfs Up!': Ka pai e hoa for telling us about your favourite summer activity, I really respect that you've chosen kapa haka— what is the name of your kapa haka group? I also love being Māori ;)
Can you please tell me what Māori games you've learned and why ngā tama use tiaha while ngā kōtiro use poi?

I look forward to your response!

    Ngā manaakitanga

  2. Kia Ora Alyssa,

My name is Rachel and I am working with the Summer Learning Journey team this year. It is wonderful to see that you have been so active this summer, posting activities on your blog. Like you, I would definitely choose family to join me on the Great Taupo Cycle Challenge. It is really important to have people who are supportive and encouraging on your team with you, isn't it? My dad is also one of my biggest fans. If I could choose, I think that I would invite my son (Aronui) to be on my team as he is eight years old and pretty active. He loves to bike and he loves to tell jokes so he could help to distract me if I was growing tired and struggling to continue! I can see that you have many brothers, including one who is 8 years old. Would you invite any of your brothers to join your cycling team?

I hope that you and your entire family had a very relaxing summer break. Are you looking forward to heading back to school? I know that Emma is really looking forward to coming into Hornby Primary School early in Term 1 to deliver the certificates and prizes for the Summer Learning Journey programme!

Wishing you a great start to your new year at school :)

    Cheers,
    Rachel

  3. Good afternoon Alyssa,

Like Emma and Jordan, I am a Cluster Manager for the Summer Learning Journey. I normally work with the tamariki from Kaikohekohe (Northland), however, I thought I would pop over and check out the work you have completed over your summer break.

In your activity for night owl or early riser, I read that you and your family members are all night owls. Could you elaborate on this? Why do you like being a night owl? Currently, I am an early riser so that I can make it to a group fitness class at 6:15 AM. It is sometimes extremely difficult to wake up that early but it means I start the day off with some exercise and can even start work early so I can finish early and enjoy my afternoon in the sunshine. Do you and your whanau have any fun activities you like to do when the sun is shining? Possibly swimming or kicking a ball around outside?

For the day 4, activity 1 activity, I too would choose the helicopter. I think seeing the beautiful scenery from a new angle would be very exciting, however, I would have to get over my fear of heights. How do you feel about heights?

I hope you have a wonderful 2019 Alyssa! Keep up your fabulous reading and writing and I hope you'll join us again next summer for some more blogging.

    Nga mihi,
    Georgia

  4. Hi Alyssa,

Awesome to see you getting involved in the Summer Learning Journey. You completed quite a number of activities, well done you!

You have come up with some really imaginative names to replace "The Devil's' Bath". You have used the word Green in quite a lot of them, is that because the pool is green or because of the scenery around it? The Lime Lake is a great name, it makes it sound much more appealing than it looks and maybe that would attract people to go and see it.

I will be coming back to see you and your classmates very soon and I am really looking forward to seeing you all then.

Until next time, happy blogging. :)

  5. Kia ora Alyssa,

My name is Susie and I am also a member of the Summer Learning Journey (SLJ) team this year. Wow, you have worked extremely hard to create this slideshow that displays so many SLJ activities!

I can see that you've found some images online of the different flowers that has been made out of flax. I am thrilled to hear that you would like to try flax weaving. If you could make anything from scratch, what would it be? I would personally love to make a picnic basket or a beach dress. I'm sure it will take me lots of time and patience to get used to the technique and learn all the tips and tricks! I hope the flax would be strong enough to hold all my delicious food assortments that will go in the basket.

I think it is really unique that you've picked your school tree as something you consider to be strong and tough. A lot of other students have either talked about someone in their family or a fictional character but I think your choice of answer stands out because it is something that's very special on its own. It links with the environmental theme this year (SLJ) and it is also native to New Zealand - which is even better! Do you know how old the tree is? I wonder which year they planted the tree in the school ground.

Last but not least, thank you for sharing your recipe on how to make delicious banana cake. I usually don't like my fruit to be heated up in any way (cooked or baked) because I think it tastes the best when served cold. However, banana cakes would have to be an exception. How often do you bake from home? Does your brothers usually help you out? I also have a younger brother who loves to bake brownies and make chocolate flavoured ice cream with me. Yes, we love our chocolates!

Have you started school yet Alyssa? What are you looking forward to this year? I hope you have an awesome year at school and continue on with your blogging! I hope to see you again next year.

    He whetū koe,
    Susie
